How to use it

Type straight into the form above. Every field is editable, including the headings. When you are done, hit Download PDF / Print and choose "Save as PDF" as your printer. The buttons, the tips and this text disappear from the printed version, leaving a clean invoice.

Nothing you type is stored on our servers. The Download PDF button builds the file on the spot and keeps nothing; close the tab and it is gone, so save the PDF before you leave.

What the CRA needs on it

The documentation rules changed in April 2021, and a surprising number of templates still follow the old ones. What you must show depends on the total on the invoice:

• Under $100 — your business name, the date, the total, and the tax amount or a statement that tax is included.
• $100 to $499.99 — all of the above, plus your GST/HST registration number in full.
• $500 and over — all of the above, plus your client's name, the terms of payment, and a description detailed enough to identify what was supplied.

This template includes everything on the top tier regardless of the amount, so you never have to work out which one applies. There is more detail in our guide to GST/HST invoice requirements.

A note on provincial tax

The dropdown handles GST and HST. British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec also levy a separate provincial tax that is administered independently and is not calculated here — if you are registered for PST, RST or QST, add it as its own line.

Rates current as at August 2026. Which rate applies generally depends on where your customer is located, not where you are. This is general information, not tax advice.

Three things that get you paid faster

Put a date in the due field, not "Net 30". A date needs no arithmetic and is harder to postpone.

Fill in the PO number. Many larger organisations will not process an invoice without one, and nobody tells you that — the invoice simply sits.

Send it the day the work ends. Invoices sent while the work is fresh get approved faster than invoices sent at month end.
