A live timer that follows you around the program, and the one-click route from a tracked call to a line on an Invoice. It is not built for billing in six-minute units; it is for the times you spend an extra hour on somebody's return and have to decide, honestly, whether to charge for it.
The Timer pill sits in the header bar on every screen. Search for the Client, press start, and carry on working. Open another record, write an email, do whatever the call is about — the timer keeps running up there, and shows you who it is running for.
Open the Client, go to their Invoices tab, and press Start timer. Same timer, already pointed at the right person.
Pause it if you are interrupted, or Stop & Log when the call ends. The entry is written against that Client immediately.
Each logged entry carries the date, the start and end times, how long it ran, and what it comes to. The rate is the Hourly rate on that Client's Invoices tab; leave it blank and it falls back to your default from Invoice Settings.
The description is yours to edit, with the pencil. Do edit it. Six months from now, a line that says Consulting tells nobody anything — not you, and not the Client asking what they are paying for. A line that says what you actually discussed settles the question before it is asked.
Forgot to start it? Add the entry by hand and set the minutes yourself. Delete one with the bin if it should not be billed at all.
Raise the Invoice as usual, from Add Invoice on the Client or from Client Invoices. Scroll down and your unbilled time is listed on the form itself.
Click the + beside an entry to turn it into an Invoice line, or the X to leave it off. To add everything at once, type "transfer time to invoice" into the AI box.
Each line arrives carrying the date and the description, so the Invoice explains itself. Edit any of it, add lines that were never timed, and the tax works itself out. Nothing is committed until you save — an Invoice can be edited right up until it posts, which is what lets you build one up as the work happens rather than all at the end.
Start it before you answer. The pill is two clicks and it is running in the background. Reconstructing the time afterwards is guesswork, and guesswork is always rounded down.
Write the description while you remember. Thirty seconds now saves an awkward conversation later.
Tracked is not the same as billed. Track everything, then decide. An entry you delete still told you where the hour went.
Set the Client's rate once. On their Invoices tab, above the timer. It applies to every entry after it.
The timer's state is stored against your account rather than the page, so it is still there when you come back. Stop it when the work stops, not when the tab does.
No, and deliberately. One timer runs at a time; switching to another Client logs the first and starts the second.
You cannot. Once an entry is stamped onto an Invoice it stops being unbilled, so it will not appear on the next one.
Yes. Log it, leave it unbilled, or write it off. It stays in the Client's time history either way, which is often the point.
Not really. There are no matters, no trust accounting and no minimum increments. It is for tax filers, bookkeepers and advisors who want to know where the hour went and document it on the Invoice.
The half hour on the phone that never makes it onto the Invoice. There is a timer in the header bar, and it follows you through the whole program. Search for the Client, and press start.
Or start it from the Client themselves, on their Invoices tab.
Either way, keep working. Open another record, write an email, do whatever the call is about. The timer keeps running up there. Pause it, or stop and log it when the call ends.
And there is the entry. The date, the start and end times, how long it ran, and what it comes to at the hourly rate. That rate is per Client, and it falls back to your default one from Invoice Settings.
The description is yours to change. This is the part worth doing properly. Six months from now, neither you nor your Client will remember what that call was about. A line that says consulting tells nobody anything. A line that says what you actually discussed settles it.
Forgot to log one? Add it by hand. Two entries now, an hour and a minute, a hundred and one dollars sixty seven, all sitting unbilled against Sarah.
So raise the Invoice.
And scroll down. Your unbilled time is right there on the Invoice form. Click the plus beside an entry to add it, or the X to leave it off. Or type transfer time to invoice in the AI box and it adds them all.
And there are your Invoice lines. Each one carrying the date and what the time was for. Edit any of it, add a line that was not timed, and the tax works itself out. This is not built for lawyers billing in six minute units. It is for the times you spend an extra hour on somebody’s return and have to decide, honestly, whether to charge for it.
Either way, it is written down.
