Free help getting set up - what it includes, how to ask, and what to have ready.
You do not have to set this up on your own. Onboarding help is free — a real person who will walk you through getting started, answer the questions the guides do not, and help you bring your existing information across.
This page explains what that includes, how to ask for it, and what to have ready so the session is worth your time.
There is no catch and no sales call attached. The accounting is free forever, so helping you get it working costs us nothing we were not already spending.
Your Business Entity, your Chart of Accounts, your Invoice Charge Types and your business profile. These are the four things that are annoying to retrofit, and the ones most worth having a second pair of eyes on.
If your Clients live in a spreadsheet — and they usually do — you do not need to retype them. There is an Excel upload that brings the whole list in at once, and we will help you map your columns to the right fields.
Getting the import right first time is much easier than cleaning up afterwards, which is why this is the part people most often ask for help with. There is a full guide on the import itself, and more detail on that to come.
Which sections to hide, what to call your records, which Client Types you will want to filter on later. Ten minutes with someone who has seen a hundred setups saves a lot of guessing.
Mid-year switches, multiple businesses, what your Accountant will need, whether a particular workflow is possible. Ask — a straight answer is more useful to both of us than you quietly deciding it will not work.
Both are in the Need Help? section of the menu once you are signed in. You do not need to have paid for anything to use either.
You will get more out of it if you bring:
That last one matters most. Setup is easier when we know what you are trying to escape.
Ask early rather than late. The cheapest time to fix a setup decision is before you have two hundred records built on it.
Try the first day yourself. Add a Client, send an Invoice, look at the books. Half an hour of your own use makes any help session far more productive, because you will have real questions.
Describe the outcome, not the button. “I want my Invoices to show GST separately for one business but not the other” gets a better answer than “where is the tax setting”.
Do not clean your spreadsheet first. People delay importing because they want to tidy the data. Bring it as it is — sorting it out is part of what we help with.
Onboarding is not a separate service bolted on. Everything covered in a session — entities, Chart of Accounts, Charge Types, Client Types — is what makes Invoices post correctly, reports mean something, and Year End be a non-event.
The reason we offer it free is straightforward: an account set up properly gets used, and someone who keeps using it eventually wants the paid modules or asks us to file their taxes. Helping you succeed is the business model, not a favour.
I have not had a reply yet. Check the email address on your account, and look in spam. Replies to the Help Desk are emailed to you as well as posted in the system.
I do not know what to ask. Say what you do in a sentence and what you want to stop doing by hand. That is enough to start with.
My spreadsheet is a mess. Send it anyway. Mapping messy columns is a routine part of this.
I am not sure it is worth setting up mid-year. Ask — the honest answer depends on your Year End date and your bookkeeping so far, and we would rather tell you to wait than have you do it twice.
Yes. There is no charge, no minimum plan and no card required. Getting you working is in our interest.
No. It is help with setup. If a paid module would solve your problem we will say so, but that is the extent of it.
We will help you do it and check the result. The Excel upload is designed so you can run it yourself once you have seen it once.
The Help Desk is monitored by real people and you will be emailed when there is a reply. We are a small Canadian company, not a 24-hour call centre — but you will get an actual answer rather than a bot.
Yes, and it is often the best way to do it. They can have their own login to your books.
Send it through Submit Request. Custom work is possible, and feature suggestions genuinely get read — a fair amount of what exists came in that way.
